About APED

APED - Associação Portuguesa de Empresas de Distribuição [Portuguese Association of Retail Companies] is an entity that has over one hundred member companies in the retail, wholesale and e-commerce sectors, encompassing an universe of about 3,000 shops, 107,000 employees and accounting for over 11% of Portugal’s GDP.

APED, founded in 1994, has implemented an affirmation strategy for the retail sector where the major concern is the consumer. Public relevance, good practices, innovation, studies and intervening with national and European institutions are part of its DNA. The Association and the industry it represents have been indispensable partners in the modernisation of the Portuguese economy.

APED has invested in strategic partnerships with various business sectors, from national production to environmental issues. It pioneered the launch of good practices throughout the value chain and today it closely follows all trends that regard consumption and the consumer, with the same goal as always: people.
Active. All-encompassing. Intervening. These are the values that define its conduct.

APED. We distribute value.

Congress

Grow with the Consumer

The consumer will be Lisbon’s main “banner” on May 3rd and 4th. These are the days when the 6th APED Congress will be held and the theme could only be one: “Grow with the Consumer”. Trends, the sector’s future, the best ways to respond to the digital age, sustainability, geostrategic challenges and the role of tourism will be the main topics of an initiative that is already a national benchmark, to be held in the Museu do Oriente museum in Lisbon.

The Congress is directed to all partners and official entities related to the retail sector in particular, and the economy in general. It will bring together a group of national and international experts to discuss retail and modern distribution trends at a time when the sector seeks to bring forward strategies to adapt to consumer demands.

The Congress will have a special guest, as in previous editions, who will present his views on major issues of the world economy. This year, the guest is Paul Krugman, winner of the Nobel Prize for Economics, who knows Portugal’s real situation very well and follows the evolution of the European economy with particular interest.

Previous editions of the APED Congress have had other prestigious international speakers, such as the Nobel Laureates Lars Peter Hansen, Joseph Stiglitz and Al Gore, and José Maria Aznar.
